Serving Mt. Carmel

Zion Lutheran Church in Mount Carmel Illinois was founded on March 27, 1838. It was the result of the efforts of three missionaries. They came to Wabash County from the general synod of Pennsylvania to explore where Lutherans might be found. The Rev. C. F. Heyer, better known as Father Heyer, visited Wabash County in 1836. He gathered together in the nuclei of two congregations, one in Mount Carmel and the other at Jordan Creek. The congregation has worshiped in it's current location since 1905.

What we believe

Lutherans are a diverse group of people, convinced that the Holy Spirit is
leading us toward unity in the household of God.

Members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America are connected to the faith of the church through the ages and around the world.

Lutherans believe in the Triune God.  We are part of God’s unfolding plan.

When we gather for worship, we connect with believers everywhere and of every time.

When  we study the Bible and pray, we are drawn more deeply  into God’s own saving story.

When we serve others and address social issues that affect the  common good, we live out our Christian faith.

About Our Church Family

Small and Mighty
But there is always room at the table for more!
Come Join Us!!

Some think about church size and assume small churches are not successful churches. At  Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church we know that is not the size of the church that defines mission and ministry, but Jesus found at its center. Our Mission statement is writ large in our hearts, "By the Holy Spirit, We come to worship and we go to serve."
